Day 4--Jaipur

This morning I flew to Jaipur, where I was taken to my hotel (a very nice one), and left for the "rest of the day at leisure to explore the wonderful pink city of Jaipur". I left the hotel and walked for about a mile along the main avenue, dodging cows, looking for an internet place. Only in India can you see a cow lying down in front of an ATM.

After stopping at an internet place and sending an email, I had a bite to eat at the Parantha Hut. (A parantha is kind of like a grilled sandwich on very thin bread). I spent the rest of the day wandering around the old town, which is known as the "Pink City", because all of the buildings (by law) are painted pink. In general, Jaipur is much more pleasant than Delhi, which is sort of like saying that Detroit is more pleasant than Flint. Actually, the Pink City part of town is quite spectacular. The rest of the town is the usual crowded collection of rubble, with a few modern buildings thrown in for variety. I went into one "mall" that looked from the outside that it was about 5 years old, but when I went inside it was dark and generally falling apart.

Some scenes from Jaipur

Tomorrow, I am supposed to go to Amber Fort, which includes an elephant ride to get to the fort. Stay tuned for the report on that one....

On to Day 5....
